Division of Geographic Information Systems

     The division is interested in studying geographical phenomena and the interrelationships between them and determining their characteristics and distribution patterns. It works to provide qualified and field-trained national competencies in various geographical fields and their technologies, such as geographic information systems, remote sensing, positioning systems, and others, to contribute to achieving the goals of development plans and meeting the requirements of the labor market. It also works to open up to society through research, studies, scientific consultations, and training courses it offers in various fields.

Objectives

Objectives

     The Division of Geographic Information Systems seeks to achieve the following objectives:

1. Developing technical awareness in line with scientific developments in the field of geographical analysis of natural and human phenomena in a way that serves contemporary technical issues and the needs of society.

2. Meeting the needs of the community through educational consultations and directing research in the field of geographic information systems.

3. The optimal use of modern technologies in education and scientific research.

4. Spreading the culture of quality and creating a spirit of positive competition with the aim of developing performance.

5. Developing students' capabilities, raising their scientific and research competence, and encouraging them to think and analyze.

Outcomes

·         Preparing specialists in geographic information systems techniques

·     Building communication networks with specialists in the field of geographic information systems

·   Preparing graduates to meet the needs of society through educational consultations and directing research in the field of geographic information systems.

Certificate Rewarded

The Division grants students after completing all of their university degree courses (Bachelor's degree in Geography, Division of Geographic Information Systems)

Entry Reuirements

     In order to accept those who apply to study in the department to obtain a specialized license (bachelor’s degree) in accordance with the internal regulations, in addition to the conditions specified by Regulation No. (501) for the year 2010 AD, the following is required:

 1.  To have obtained a general or specialized secondary certificate, or an equivalent certificate recognized by the competent recognition authority.

 2.  The regular student should devote himself to studying at the college, and not be registered in any other college or institute, and the non-regular student should be subject to the conditions of the relevant department in a manner commensurate with his capabilities and capacity to absorb.

 3.   His grade in the specialized secondary certificate should not be less than the percentage determined by the University of Tripoli, which is announced annually immediately after announcing the results of the specialized secondary exams in the periodical and the like.

 4.  Foreign students may be accepted with scholarships at the expense of the community in accordance with the principles and rules that decide on the admission of Libyan students, and the college may set conditions regarding the admission of non-Libyan students to study at their own expense in accordance with the legislation in force, and it is required that the applicant be a non-Libyan Arab residing in this country. Ordinary students throughout the period of their studies in the college and fulfill all the conditions related to the qualification, without prejudice to the rules of reciprocity stipulated in the agreements signed in this regard.

 5. The non-Libyan applicant should undertake to pay fees and study expenses in accordance with the regulations, decisions, and legislation issued and in force at the university.

 6. To be healthy, free from infectious diseases, and able to follow theoretical and practical lessons.

 7. Successfully passing the personal interview exam in the departments that require this.

Study Plan

The Bachelor in Division of Geographic Information Systems prepares students to qualify for Bachelor in Division of Geographic Information Systems. The student studies several subjects which have been carefully chosen in this major to cover its different aspects.

It comprises 8 Semesters of study, in which the student will study a total of 120 units, which include 15 units of general subjects, and 105 major units
