The program provides the education courses related to education thought,  comparative education and education foundations for two semesters to achieve  high level academic and educational goals through the development of the education thought and the preparation specialized researchers have the ability to apply different research approaches and education theories to achieve the intended development to promote and serve humanity through researching in the different areas and fields of education foundations

Objectives

The program aims to:

·         Achieve the knowledge development and other types of development in the area of specialization, and gain the related new knowledge through research.

·         Apply the professional knowledge in order to solve the important big problems.

·         Attempting to accomplish research projects and activities aiming at building the knowledge and applying it.

·         Publishing the knowledge through publishing research articles in reviewed scientific journals and other recognize means of publishing academic and non-academic knowledge around the world.

·         Develop experience in teaching, training, guidance, and build the learners credibility to become a model in different appropriate education contexts.

The applicant to the program should hold a master degree in education foundations.

Study Plan

The PhD in Education & Psychology / Education Foundations Branch prepares students to qualify for PhD in Education & Psychology / Education Foundations Branch. The student studies several subjects which have been carefully chosen in this major to cover its different aspects.

It comprises 3 Semesters of study, in which the student will study a total of 30 units, which include 0 units of general subjects, and 30 major units, 6 of elective units. In addition to a final project in the student's major.

This course dealt with some statistical methods and applications in the SPSS program, represented in measures of relationship and correlation, in addition to introducing inferential statistics such as: statistical hypotheses, the concept of statistical significance, measurement errors, hypothesis errors - type I error, type II error, level of confidence, level ofSignificance, calculating percentage significance, and how to benefit from it, regression and analysis of variance, non-parametric measures, psychometric properties of tests, and employing the SPSS program to enter, analyze and interpret data.

This course focuses on presenting concepts related to scientific research methods and distinguishing between them, introducing the concept of scientific research and its importance in scientific life, and summarizing the most important scientific research skills and characteristics, making it capable of preparing integrated research steps.

This course covers the concepts related to education and social change, knowing the relation between these sides, the importance of social change and the factors effecting it, positively and negatively. It also covers the role of education in making the social change, its most important manifestations, how to benefit from the facets of social change in its positive aspects to eliminate cultural backwardness and raise the awareness through education.

This course discusses the following issues and topics: the meaning of ethics, the emergence and development of ethics, ethical theories and doctrines, moral virtues, and moral values, education and ethics, the concept of moral education, ethical doctrines of education, and the most important contributions of Muslim thinkers in the field of moral education.

The course describes specifically the social issues in the Libyan society, such as social backwardness, ignorance, illiteracy and others. On the other side, it also covers the concepts, ideas and theories explaining society development, the different issues facing it, the relationship of education with all of these, especially that education is the important tool for awareness, guiding and counselling in respect of facing these issues and how to solve them.

This course includes new horizons for graduate students, especially doctoral students in the field of foundations of education, through which the student explores the most important modern philosophical doctrines and schools of education, and the modern educational theories and opinions they present, aiming to develop education on the one hand, and address its problems on the other hand.

This course includes an introduction to the general foundations of scientific research methods and the sub-applications of those methods in the field of pedagogy, and an introduction to the cognitive skills necessary for research in the field of pedagogy, in terms of its concept, types, functions, and research methods in all fields and branches of pedagogy.

This includes studying the most important contemporary educational issues related to the specialization in a way that is compatible with the needs of students and modern educational developments.
